Nestled in the serene landscapes of Tanabe, Wakayama, Fushiogami Teahouse is a delightful café that beckons travelers and locals alike to take a moment of respite. This charming teahouse is only a stone's throw away from the Fushiogami Oji shrine, making it an ideal pit-stop for those trekking along the historical Kumano Kodo trail.

Stepping into Fushiogami Teahouse, you are greeted by a cozy atmosphere that invites you to unwind. The friendly staff, often volunteers with a passion for hospitality, create an engaging, welcoming space perfect for enjoying a refreshing drink after a long hike. The simple yet inviting décor embraces the beauty of traditional Japanese warmth, making it an oasis of tranquility in the hustle of travel.

Visitors rave about their culinary delights, and the highlights truly lie in their unique offerings. Enliven your palate with a glass of their famous shiso juice—an infusion of fragrant shiso leaves that captivates with its vibrant flavor. Customer Lucy Ting assures that it's a must-try, hinting at the refreshing tang and subtle herbal notes that are perfect for rejuvenating your senses.

Seasonal selections such as Onsen Tamago, a delicately prepared soft-boiled egg that melts in your mouth, further showcase the culinary charm of the teahouse. Pair this with some fresh Japanese oranges, and you have a delightful citrusy burst that is both sweet and refreshing. Ayana praises the café as a wonderful place to rest, emphasizing the local produce and the opportunity to stamp your pilgrimage book.

Moreover, Fushiogami Teahouse offers a convenient spot for travelers equipped with essential amenities, including a drinking water point and clean restrooms, ensuring you can hydrate and refresh before continuing your journey. As Ben H points out, the café allows you to enjoy your own packed meals or opt for their basic yet satisfying menu of coffee, fruits, and snacks.

The rich experience at Fushiogami Teahouse extends beyond the menu. The warmth of the staff creates a community atmosphere where fellow travelers can connect over a cup of onsen coffee, brewed with mineral-rich hot spring water that adds a unique flavor profile to your drink, as noted by H B.

Whether you’re a weary hiker or simply a curious traveler, Fushiogami Teahouse promises a delightful culinary experience blending local flavors with heartfelt hospitality. Make sure to add this charming stop to your itinerary when exploring the captivating Kumano Kodo trails, and allow yourself time to savor every refreshing moment!

Stopped for a quick break on the trail from Hosshimon-oji to Hongu Taisha Mae and had a refreshing plum juice (¥200).

We enjoyed some Onsen Tamago here and bought some fresh Japanese oranges. Nice spot to take a rest, use the stamp, and it is only 21 steps away from Fushiogami-Oji and a nice look-out. Not to miss!

There are 2 ladies working at the place. They work as guide as "katatibe" usually and volunteer to run the place. They used to have shiso juice but they had only onsen coffee when I visited. They use onsen water to make coffee. Taste mild:)
